How It Works

Stage IDay 0
Brief Submission

The engagement begins with the submission of a research brief. The brief may be as detailed or as open-ended as the instructing party requires. It should identify the legal question, the relevant jurisdiction, any known authority, and the deadline for delivery. Briefs can be submitted through the form on this site, by email to research@fp.iura.in, or through direct communication with the research team. Each brief is assigned a unique reference number upon receipt.

Stage IIDay 1
Scope Assessment

Within one working day of receipt, the research team reviews the brief and prepares a scope assessment. This document confirms the understood research question, identifies the jurisdictions and sources to be consulted, proposes the deliverable format, and provides a fee indication. The scope assessment is sent to the instructing party for confirmation. No research is commenced until the scope is confirmed.

Stage IIIDays 2–4
Primary Source Research

Systematic retrieval of primary legal materials begins. This includes judgments from SCC Online, Manupatra, and official court databases; statutory provisions from authenticated legislative texts; subordinate legislation; and, where relevant, parliamentary records. Every source is verified against its official database. The research is comprehensive within the agreed scope – no relevant authority is deliberately omitted, including authority that may be unfavourable to the instructing party’s position.

Stage IVDays 4–6
Analysis & Synthesis

Retrieved materials are analysed for their relevance, authority, and currency. The governing ratio of each case is extracted. Conflicting lines of authority are identified and mapped. Statutory provisions are read in the context of their judicial interpretation. The analysis synthesises the primary materials into a coherent structure that addresses the research question. Where the law is unsettled or conflicting, this is reported transparently with the available arguments on each side.

Stage VDays 6–7
Draft Memorandum

The research findings are drafted into a formal memorandum. The memorandum follows a structured format: research question, summary of conclusions, detailed analysis with full citation, and appendices where required. The drafting standard ensures that every proposition is supported by cited authority, every citation is accurate and verifiable, and the analysis is presented in a sequence that mirrors the logic of the argument.

Stage VIDay 8
Review & Revision

The draft memorandum is submitted to the instructing party for review. One round of revision is included in the standard engagement. Revisions may address scope clarification, additional questions arising from the draft, or requests for further analysis on specific points. Revision requests are addressed within one working day.

Stage VIIDays 9–10
Delivery

The final memorandum is delivered in the agreed format. Standard delivery is in PDF with a structured table of contents and hyperlinked citations. Word format is available on request for integration into pleadings or submissions. Upon delivery, all working materials are securely disposed of. No copies of the research, the brief, or any client materials are retained.

Standard turnaround: 910 working days. Expedited available subject to capacity.
